About Me

I grew up in the towns of McCordsville & Fortville in northwest Hancock County. Graduated from Mt.Vernon High School in 1977 and received an IU Business Degree in 1996. I am the proud father of Josh, who also graduated from Mt. Vernon in 2002. He and his lovely wife Rachael are working & continuing their educations at Butler University. In my spare time I like to fish, play bad golf and follow Butler basketball. “Go Dawgs”

$8000 Tax Credit

First-Time Homebuyer Federal Income Tax Credit is effective for purchases on or after January 1, 2009 and before December 1, 2009. The tax credit is the lesser of 10% of the cost of the home or $8000. Unlike the credit passed last summer, which required repayment, the $8000 tax credit is clean refundable credit. If the $8000 is greater than the tax you owe, then you would get a refund check for the difference.

There are income limitations of $75,000 ($150,000 on a joint return) and it is designed for first time buyers meaning that the home buyer and spouse can not have owned a principal residence in the last three years. Also there is recapture of the tax credit if the home is sold within 3 years of purchase.
